Building MountainsA Poem by Middling
I abandoned them all
Architects and engineers I wanted none of their fears For my dear mountain, tall. I wanted a path to walk A fine hill to climb, For it was my own time To shine among the flock. Their advice plagued me Don’t do this, don’t do that, No single answer would suffice. So I reneged against them For I could not find any reason Or method to please them. So I cast them away, To start anew again, And keenly hoped let bravery pay For so few I held in close esteem. I built her strong and sturdy And let nature take it’s course, For I knew they were wrong I sewed those seeds with force And hoped that they would grow. In the winter a rushy beard, Grew upon the northern slopes And I stared at those hills long, And I did not moan nor mope For fate had come along And given me natures beauty. Now when they come to look With faces glum and stare into my shuck And say “Oh, what hungry hills they are” I hear and is my heart not badly shook. © 2010 MiddlingFeatured Review
