Caged Bird part 1

Caged Bird part 1

A Story by MickeyM

I sat in a small chair on the balcony, resting my arms and head on the railing while i gazed out at the lovely weeping willow trees slouching over a trickling stream. Tears flowed silently down my cheeks and I made no effort to stop them. Jonah was inside the inn room sleeping, his 'friend' was standing guard outside. Sighing sorrowfully, I smoothed my skirts and considered for a brief moment...what would it feel like to just...jump. To let myself fall free as a bird in the cool midnight air. Would I feel like a bird, would I fly. As let my imagination soar my tears slowed and I almost didn't notice the young man who walked directly under my little sitting area. I looked at him, trying to work up the courage to call for help, but he saved me from the decision when he looked up at me. His hair was as black as the sky, his dark eyes reflected the stars, he was very tall and had a small smile on his lips.

"Hello there." He whispered loudly and waved. Nervous that Jonah had heard, I looked behind me before answering.

    "Hello." my voice was timid.

The man grinned at me and stepped a tad bit closer, I could now tell that his eyes were a stunning shade of indigo, they reminded me of the ocean on a stormy day. I stood up and leaned slightly over the edge.

"Are you all alone up there beautiful?" He asked, teasingly but sweet. I hesitated, not sure what I should do, or what I should say. Then  the door opened behind me and the light from a dozen candles flooded onto my face. The fear must have been evident in my expression because the man looked confused and worried.

"Lucetta dear," Jonah cooed softly on my ear, "say goodbye to the nice gentlemen before I get angry." I turned to the man under me and my mouth refused to form any words. Jonah covered for me.

"Sorry lad, my beloved is very worn from our long day, I must be getting her to sleep."

The man nodded, his smile gone, and I looked at him pleadingly. His brows knitted together in confusion, but then i was roughly dragged into the room and tied to a bed. Jonah slapped me hard.

"What did you say to him?" He hissed at me. I shook my head desperately hoping he would believe me.

He glared at me until I found my voice, "Nothing sir, just hello. I swear."

Jonah held my gaze for a moment longer then just shook his head and climbed on to the bed. I turned my back to him, praying I would get some rest and that I would live to see the mourning.
