An Apple UnsweetA Poem by Lost in Wonderland
I fell in love with a beautiful image,
Made of broken glass, And hiding a devil inside. I fell willingly into the darkness Because he made it look light- He was the light, rather the flame That's swarming with swooning moths Mesmerized by this heat That makes us feel the most alive Even when we are seconds from death And somehow that drew me. Loving you was stepping into a book Where we- or you- made the rules. It was a black hole in plain sight- That swept me from the real world- Where you were the serpent, Your touch a red apple, bitter and sweet, And I your Eve. But you played a pretty savior, To fool someone like me. But now I'm breathing again, Though it still comes in gasps. And I sometimes wonder If I didn't Leave my heart Under the apple tree, With you in the grass.
