Fever DreamsA Poem by Lost in Wonderland
I'm so tired,
And yet I can't sleep. This heat is embodied misery; Drowning me, Suffocating me, Never ceasing, And all consuming. I grasp at cool breezes, Rare like a single drop of water In a long parched desert And I did not know how thirsty I was Till I had but a little to drink, And the water was bitter, not sweet. Those blankets are tangled at my feet. What once was a long awaited dream Becomes a feverish nightmare: Tossing in turning Scaring and burning, But didn't I call this pain my home? I'm a prisoner locked in a fantasy- Looked at like a princess And treated like a queen, But witness to the cruelness Of those who claim it is all in love All in good fun. Fun like a knife piercing your heart. And God, I just can't escape this awful heat! Someone save me from this dreaded heat!
