The human condition

The human condition

A Poem by Lost in Wonderland

Weeping statue, oh so old,
How weary you must be.
These battles based upon fools gold-
"Oppression to stay free".

How wide your bed must seem,
Lying there alone and cold,
Without your lover next to thee;
No warm whispers to be told.

Your hearth hath lost its energy,
Your sun hath ceased to shine.
How sad to dream of eternity,
Yet know we all must die.

Author's Note

Lost in Wonderland
I was in Athens and saw the head of a statue that looked like she was crying. I though of all the wars the people had gone through, sorrows felt then that we feel now. I felt connected to the story so here you are! God has the glory <3

Thanks for the review:)
Beautifully written. I was studying Ancient Greek ever since I was a child, so I feel very connected to their civilization, heroes, drama, myths and culture. I especially like the last two lines "How sad to dream of eternity / Yet know we all must die.", I think they capture the whole "ancient feeling" very well. Good job (:

This was simply beautiful! The words flowed smoothly, and the story was both great and sad. I loved it. Great job! :)

You're welcome. :)
I loved the background to the write. I read the poem prior to reading the authors note and had an image of one of the old knights that lie on top of tombs (of knights lol) just laid there for eternity on their own. You conveyed the sentiment very well.

I really liked how you emphasized not only on the concept of death, but also change. Death is very crucial in life because it gives people an opportunity to appreciate the time we have in this world. It is truly up to us to make that opportunity worth wild! Great write!

This reminds me of a statue of a "basking lady" that I saw once in a museum...she was resting upon a bench of sorts, and I stared at her for so long; locked in her eternal pose as people passed, looked, commented, even touched her. It felt slightly eerie. This is an interesting take on the idea of mortality...the way that we build statues to our "gods" and "goddess'", write poetry, paint, make music, etc., all in an attempt to live beyond the eventual "stopping point" we all must face. Thought provoking. The form and rhyme was pretty good in this as well...enjoyable!

Your story and poetry connect and bring us there to her... beside the statue, weary and worn over countless years of weeping.. mourning the losses of loved ones... What a powerful voice sings this haunting chorus...
