Dance of the Damned

Dance of the Damned

A Poem by Lost in Wonderland

There's a perpetual chill in the air
Where the voices whisper ever soft
Like a wind whisked through your hair
Like the tired lessons mothers taught
How proper girls were docile and fair
Rather everything I was not

I can hear them call to me
Singing songs of strange places
Brushing me with hands like a breeze
Begging me to see their faces

It's a ghastly ball of black and white
Fine corpses dance with painted masks
Only in the darkest, coldest nights
Coaxing me to fall into his lifeless grasp

The reaper coos softly in my ear
His voice composed of sweet, hypnotic rhythms
Urging me to stay with him here
In this world so beautifully dark and grim

His cool hand linger at my waist
Keeping me in this cryptic palace
Perhaps it would be easier to give in and stay
In this damned dance forever lost

I could completely imagine this entire thing! I loved the lines

"Like the tired lessons mothers taught
How proper girls were docile and fair
Rather everything I am not"

That part I found wonderful! Along with the imaginative way the poem creeped forward, I didn't want it to end! Fabulous work!

Thank you so much :)
God bless, and tell me if there's anything I can review in return!
I hate to repeat what everyone else has already said, but it was a detail I particularly liked about this poem so I'll say it anyways: I loved the imagery in this poem. When combined with the rhythm, it made me really feel the poem instead of just read it. Well done.

Beautifully written..pulling and pushing to the end. It definitely leaves images in the mind and the way you wrote it made it easy to see. Thank you for sharing a great piece! :)

So many readers and their comments were exactly what I was thinking while reading. You're imagery is remarkable.

A great, vivid poem, it lends a grim romance to the TotenTanz (I think that's the spelling haha)

Keep it up :)

So dark... what's up, girl? You seem to like the depressing stuff. But then again, those are the easiest things to write. You write them well!

Very eerie, ethereal little piece you have penned here. I personally prefere to embrace the darker, more sinister things lurking in the nether recesses of my mind. That's what we do, write about them and bring them out into the light for all to see. They're not quite as scary and intimidating that way.
Spooky stuff, great job!
