In the Company of Rain

Can you taste it in the air?

The storm on yonder horizon

Painting the world a grey and dismal vision.

Birds cease their flight to stare.

Shall I dance, would I dare?

My lover a rich man's son...

If I bid him, would he come?

'Tis doubtful with his many affairs.

Which leaves me to wander alone,

Enveloped by this sympathetic rain

Grieving with me as I ponder his lies.

It's watery embrace makes me feel welcome, known,

For I know no other but the birds hear my desperate cries

While I whither away in this silent pain.

Author's Note

My friend Abi who's a few years older than me was telling me about this poem type she was learning about in English 4. Today I got a text with the above rhyme scheme from her. So this is my attempt at a Petrarchan (which is an Italian sonnet). Hope you enjoy c:

it's been a while i haven't read your verses my friend... so here i am... visiting the beauty of your poetry.... i see the heartfelt sadness... the silent cries of a young woman's struggles in her love affiar... how sad reality that now love seems to be a game of chances... a game of whom is much fun in the choices in their hands... there is a saying why choose one when there are many choices... well its comes in a different situations... in terms of love, hard to say... there are too many levels of love... and i guess there will be always be one person that last a lifetime in your heart...

Also, this was beautiful. I mean that when I say it too. It was like breathing in cold air after what seemed like an endless jog full of pain and misery. The least I can say is: I love it. The most, well, I could go on and on.

Not sure of the rhyme scheme that you mentioned, but I thought it was perfect. Like a relaxing and invigorating wave of serenity. I want to bathe in it.

Okay I'll stop there. I liked how you turned it from what seemed like a beautiful depiction of scenery and combined it with a sadness that, in my case, felt actually a bit comforting. Not sure what I mean by that, but that's how I feel.
