Behind The White Door

Behind The White Door

A Poem by Mick Burke
"

For my family

"

Behind a standard white door,

Lives a typical family of four,

A father, a mother,

Two sisters, no brother,

Let's open the door and explore.

The father's an ordinary man,

Who's doing the best that he can,

He does what he's able,

To put food on the table,

and hopes it all works out to plan.

He married a marvelous blend,

She's a mother, a wife and a friend,

As she is the one,

Who gets the job done,

On her all the others depend.

One daughter's a fourteen year old girl,

With emotions all up in a whirl,

She's witty and smart,

With a generous heart,

She stands out from her peers like a pearl.

Her sister's eleven years old,

She was born with a heart of pure gold,

She's loud and she's funny,

Makes every day sunny,

When they made her they shattered the mould.

Now you've looked behind the white door,

At this typical family of four,

I don't have great wealth,

But with family and health,

I really don't need any more.

Thank you.
Sounds like an ideal situation. No one could want more/ Than what's behind this door.

It's a pretty good situation alright....most of the time.
Great limericks here Mick Burke.
I liked the Christy reference 'ordinary man'
You opened the door - invited us into your home to see your riches and closed it again with a wave - very cleverly done. Class.

Thanks Anto, for reading and the kind words.
Being a writer of of comedy mainly...and limericks...I appreciate the pattern of this and I think that it is a GEM....I'll certainly look into your other poems now...Telling stories in perfect rhyme and meter is not as easy as it sounds
