Never

Never

A Poem by Mick Burke
"

On the death of a young person

"

The cruellest part of the death of a friend,

Is the realisation that this is the end.

It's hard to accept that death is forever,

We can't comprehend the concept of Never...

Never going to town to just have a look,

Never watching the telly, or reading a book.

Never going to the shops to pick up some treats,

Never watching a movie from the VIP seats.

Never keeping on fighting with backs to the wall,

Never swinging a hurl or kicking a ball.

Never missing the bus and turning up late,

Never knowing the thrill of a very first date.

Never marrying someone and having a spouse,

Never getting a mortgage and buying a house.

Never worrying about money, or taking a loan,

Never paying for heat, or light, or the phone.

Never being a parent seeing joy in kid's eyes,

Never praising their efforts or calming their cries.

Never planning and plotting and building a scheme,

Never feeling the triumph of achieving a dream.

Now all these dreams, these hopes and endeavour,

Are boxed up and buried, and the label says...”Never”.

Heartbreaking. Your grief is palpable and still inescapable from looking away from word to word. Really beautiful.

Thank you.
great closing lines. the finality of death. personally i believe that our soul survives death, dont ask me where they go, but they do survive.

so sure of victory
death gives to all
a lifetime
for a head start...
