A wish for my good friend John .....

I hope Santa left you something rewarding under the tree 

If not then lay your head upon a pillow and think of me 

At the very least we will always have each other 

A texting friendship, always waiting for another 

Christmas is joy, hope, smiles and wishes

And most of all, don’t you dare forget the kisses

As the new year approaches and we think ahead 

May your reflections of past harbor nothing left unsaid

Your friend must've been honored by this poem for him! You convey comfortable sentiments that could be more lasting than if this were described as a more passionate or romantic involvement. It seems as if this poem dismisses the possibility of that.
