I Lie Awake

I Lie Awake

A Poem by Michael Thrower

I stare up at the stars and wonder what tomorrow brings,

The sun rises as I think, the night passed so quickly.

I stare up at the stars and wonder why they can’t stay longer,

They bring such peace to my mind, how could I ever sleep?

I close my eyes and wonder where I’ll be,

When I awake from this nocturnal dream.

I close my eyes and think of the stars and moon,

The cold warmth that has moved on too soon.

This is truly where I feel at home too, I'm a night owl, and feel best at deep in the night, those times are utterly inspiring, and to all of us poets, (mostly). The night goes away always to soon, and we have to wait until another calls. I loved this piece. Well penned!

The nights can be soothing to our soul, and makes for some great poetry at 4 am! There's comfort and also uneasiness in this read, if that makes any sense at all.

It makes plenty of sense, and thank you Frieda. It's nice to hear from you again.
Thoughts and the starry night sky, the theme is beautiful.. A tinge of fantasy swirls.. Wondrous poem.. =)

Thank you for your time to read this :)
This seems to be about loss of comfort - I think that no one would argue that the stars make them feel at peace, I also like the way you put some of it in question form -nice poem

Thank you, yes it had that element within.
Sunsets, moon, clouds, stars - everything up the sky can leave a tranquil sensation in our hearts. I felt this too whenever I look at the dark sky at night on the rooftop. Enjoyed this and well-penned!
