Writing with Blood

Writing with Blood

A Poem by Michael Thrower
"

The power of writing is stronger than we see. Just look at history. Slain many poets is symbolical to defeating them with words, bringing them to tears and revealing the truth. Not actually murdering.

"

I've bent the lines and broken rhymes,

But to settle my wrath is incredulous.

Anger as fuel, spiteful and cruel,

I write with blood spilled in mass.

I've slain many poets in my time of years,

Their weeping came soft as a song in my ear.

Downgraded entrusting lies that they sputter,

None shall speak of one or another.

Words written, expressed in their grief,

Tears and blood write differently.

True to the heart means embrace weakness,

Not blaming others in self-regret.

So a true writer is damned to death,

We must write to live, with each gaping breadth.

Sword in hand, dipped in ink,

The blood flows, into history.

Author's Note

Michael Thrower
Just my view on writers throughout history and what it means to be one. Also, the despair a writer would go through to write, like opening a vein for ink. I read it in a book and that one line, "Have you ever been so desperate to write, you had to open a vein for ink?", really got me thinking. Hope you, the readers, get the same feeling I have. Thanks for reading!

Writers are tortured souls; we bleed ourselves dry with each piece we create. Luckily, hopefully, the blood replenishes itself and we live to write another day...it is on those days when the wound does not heal, when the blood does not coagulate, and the fresh blood cannot accumulate that we feel weak and anemic...on those days when the words won't come, it is almost as though we are lying face down on the floor in a pool of our own blood, useless. Blood on the floor can't sustain us; ink in our veins has the ability to resurrect. Really terrific write, Michael...great job.
