Virginal

Virginal

A Poem by Michael R. Burch

Virginal
by Michael R. Burch

For an hour
every wildflower
beseeches her:
To thy breast,
Elizabeth!

But she is mine;
her lips divine
and her breasts and hair
are mine alone.

Let the wildflowers moan.

Has a 17th century sound too it. It is not a sonnet, but has the same flavor. Liked the spareness, the brevity and the rhyming. The last line sums up the speaker's feeling. Well done.

Thanks, I'm glad you liked my poem. It is probably closest to a medieval lay.
