Salvation of a Formalist, an Ode to Entropy

Salvation of a Formalist, an Ode to Entropy

A Poem by Michael R. Burch

Salvation of a Formalist, an Ode to Entropy
by Michael R. Burch

Entropy?
God's universal decree
That I get to be
Disorderly?
Suddenly
My erstwhile boxed-in verse is free?
Wheeeeee!

Huh. I have to say, Michael, I kind of likes this. It's deconstructive, if the term can apply here (it seems a bit technical to me, and I'm not the type to stick to such strict definitions), but not too much so to have structure. It's also really short and sweet.

I don't read many poems though, so as far as I know this might have been done a million times before.

I'm not sure that entropy has ever been offered as a reason for formalists to free their poetry. ;-)
Isaac Watts and Charles Wesley would probably shake their heads.

They are probably too busy, still trying to make the gospel make sense in heaven. ;-)
