Memories?

Memories?

A Poem by Michael Kikle

In youth, we speak of what we will do

Once we have grown. We speak

Of the genesis of a relationship with a

Perfect other. We speak of the perfect

Family, birthed into a perfect world.

We speak of a perfect house,

Whether we share it or keep it all

For our perfect, older selves.

We speak of a perfect pet,

Which can do many tricks.

We speak of our not-so-perfect

Parents aging away, always stating

That they will never age in our very

Own perfect homes.
