Reapers of ThornsA Poem by Michael Iam BoneThis piece symbolizes the cycle of systemic oppression though a love poem.
A kiss?... It was never meant to be...
For all our struggles, for all our joys, It was never meant to be... I cry out! Why do you torment me!? I cry out! Betrayal! I Lament Thee! I cry out! This was never meant to be! Why did you do this, you've lost sight of what set you free!... And so we are divided again... Scared you were, lonely and weak. And yet you rose from the chains that bound you. Such a fool I was, for it was I who had put you there, My ignorance and lust did blind me. Yet you saved me from such sin, and lifted us both up From squalor, showing me just how beautiful you truly are. So why did you do this?... I thought you knew, knew I had changed? I would rather be cast right out, than to have been given forgiveness, Only so you could cast both me and that forgiveness aside for revenge... Was this what you truly wanted?... I loved you... I still do. I had been shown the error of my ways, embracing your love. Was this all a lie? Has something about you changed?... ANSWER ME!... Do you truly wish to do to me what I had done to you?.. I guess I have reaped what I have sown... But you should know... You reap what you sow. It was never meant to be... A kiss... of death...
