Breakfast In BedA Story by Michael GentryKyrian show Amanda he's a man of many talentsSliding quietly out of the bed trying desperately not to wake Amanda, I head to the bathroom so I can put on my pj's and robe. Before leaving the room I check and make sure Amanda is still sleeping, seeing that she is I silently close the door behind me and go check to make sure the kids are still sleeping as well. Making my way to the kitchen I go over the list of ingredients I'm going to need to make this a special morning. Flour, sugar, baking soda, eggs, vanilla extract, milk and butter. Pulling out the waffle iron to preheat, I begin to mix all the ingredients. As the waffle is cooking I set about the kitchen getting everything else prepared. Setting the breakfast tray on the counter I go and grab the vase from underneath the sink and place a single long stem red rose in it then place it on the tray. Adding to the tray I set the utensils with a napkin folded like a swan, coffee and a champagne flute filled with orange juice. Placing the waffle on a plate I add Greek yogurt whipped cream, thinly sliced fresh strawberries, bananas, kiwi and blueberries and on top of that I sprinkle cinnamon and then pour warm honey over the top of the whole creation. With everything set I had back to the bedroom. Opening the door to our room I take a moment and look on at the silently sleeping angel that is my wife, thinking about where I would be now if it was not for her. With a smile that touches my eyes, I make my way over to the bed. Placing the tray beside the bed I lean down and gently kiss Amanda on her lips to wake her up. Gently stroking her cheek I say "this is perfection, this is beauty." As she sits up adjusting herself in the bed I reach over and place the breakfast tray over her lap. Taking her hand in mine and placing a chaste kiss across her knuckles I say "Don't worry about anything I'll take care of the kids you just relax and enjoy your morning." Seeing the smile that lights up her face as she looks over the breakfast before her she asks "is there something special about today?" Just you I say. Placing one last kiss upon her lips I head out to get the kids ready for school. After closing the door I head down the hall and start the process of getting the kids ready for school. Walking into Marissa's room I can't help but smile seeing her little body all curled up in her blankets. Walking over and sitting on the edge of the bed I pull the covers back slightly and stroke her hair, I say "good morning sunshine it's time to get ready for school." After setting out her purple dress with pink hearts on it, I grabbed her pink sandals from the closet then head down to wake up NJ. I help NJ dress in a pair of blue jeans and a red shirt with the angry birds on it. After putting on NJ's shoes I stepped out into the hallway just in time to see Marissa trying to open our bedroom door. Asking Marissa to leave her mother be and put on her socks and shoes. I inform our little group that breakfast will be ready in 30 minutes. Walking in to Alexander's room I pick him up out of the crib, set him on his changing table and go about the process of getting him ready to leave. Heading back down into the kitchen I scramble some eggs and make some toast for the kids breakfast, handing a glass of Orange juice to each of them. While the kids are finishing their breakfast I head back upstairs to check on Amanda. Seeing that she is done with her breakfast, I take the tray and tell her that I will be back in a few minutes after dropping the kids off at school and head back downstairs. Seeing that the children were finished with their breakfast I placed all of the dishes in the sink, and ask the kids to go put on their jackets so we can leave for school, we head out and pile into the Man-Van and start our journey towards the various schools and the adventures of our day. © 2014 Michael Gentry |
