Hunter EasterA Story by Michael GentryEaster With the Hunter Family((Easter Sunday)) Waking up before the rest of the house I head downstairs to set out the Easter baskets for the kids along with a pink bunny for Marissa. Heading into the kitchen I gather the eggs that Rosa and the kids worked so hard to decorate and walk into the back yard to hide them. Once I’m sure I have everything ready I head back upstairs to get ready for a busy day. After showering, I towel myself off, I shave and brush my teeth then head to the closet to grab the black jeans that Amanda Hunter says hugs my a*s just right. Walking back to the dresser I grab my special Easter shirt, straightening the shirt in the mirror, satisfied everything was where it was supposed to be I made my way downstairs for Easter breakfast with the family. Rosa had out done herself, breakfast has huge, pancakes, eggs, bacon, sausage, French toast, coffee, orange juice, and milk.
Breakfast was a carnival of sounds, Amanda
feeding Alexander and making little cooing noises, Marissa and Rosa
talking and laughing, right down to NJ feeding Terminator sausages from
the table. Giggling softly and shaking my head I dive into my own
breakfast. Once everyone was finished I helped Rosa clear the table
while Amanda took the kids upstairs to get ready. Gathering the
children by the patio doors I tell them that I hide 48 plastic eggs with
candy and money in them plus 12 real eggs. Kneeling down so I can look
each one in the eyes, I tell them that the one who brings me the most
real eggs will get a special prize. Turning them loose into the
backyard to start the hunt their little bodies a blur as they dart from
place to place grabbing up the plastic oval treasure chests and real
eggs, all the while laughing and teasing each other about their lack of
goodies. When they final return to the kitchen proclaiming that they
found everything I take NJ to one end of the table while Marissa and
Amanda go to the other. The final total showing that Marissa found the
most plastic eggs, it was NJ who found 8 of the real eggs. I see the small look of pride in my sons’ eyes with his small victory over his older sister today. Walking over to the cabinet where I stashed it, I pull out a 24 inch solid chocolate bunny. NJ’s eyes get as big as his face when he sees the size of the bunny. “Is it all for me?” he says when I tell him that this one is not hollow. I just smile and hand the rabbit to him and watch him run off to show his sister. Walking up to Amanda, slightly bowing my head, and wrap my arms around her waist, “I couldn't resist,” I tell her “everyone once in their life should attempt the 24 inch solid bunny.” © 2014 Michael Gentry |
