The Lego IncidentA Story by Michael GentryKyrian finds out what happens when you step on a Lego in the middle of the stairs while insomnia plays havoc with his senses.Walking in the house at 3 AM, the night was a complete waste, five
hours out tonight and not one daimon. What? Were they on vacation. I
needed the workout, something to help me sleep. I have a beautiful wife
who I would like to fall asleep with, not out trying to work out my
insomnia chasing daimons. As I head into the house I stopped to
take off my boots, then headed upstairs to put away all my gear from
tonight. I'm trying not to wake the whole house at this hour, keeping the lights off (it's my house I know every inch of it) I head to my office. Three steps from the upstairs landing I feel it, the piercing pain from something stabbing the bottom of my foot. Reaching down I grab what feels like a Lego, since it was my turn to do the final walk-through to make sure all the toys were put away I can only be mad at myself.
As I stand back up my sword gets caught in the railing which spins me
back towards the first floor. I'm quickly losing my balance, reaching
out to grab the railing which should have been under my right hand but
with my insomnia rack brain all I grabbed was air. Going a*s over teakettle down the stairs, my bag comes open spilling all my knives, spikes, and darts down the stairs to echo off the marble of the downstairs landing. Lying flat on my back, spread eagle, all the lights start popping on. My only thought at that moment was not did I break anything, but how much trouble I am in for waking the whole house up. I am done, I know it, it's all down to how much groveling I'll have to do before I'm out of the doghouse. Lying there with my eyes closed too embarrassed to move I feel the sweetest thing, Amanda gently kissing my forehead. Opening my eyes I see Amanda kneeling beside me, closing my eyes again I ask "did I wake the kids too?" As Amanda helps me to stand up I see the concerned look on her face. Taking my hand she starts to head upstairs but stops on the second step and turns, so she is even with my eyes, placing both hands on my face she says "I think it's time to call Grace and see who she recommends you go see about your insomnia."As always she's right, "okay" I say "I'll call her tomorrow." "Thank you" she says "now let's see if I can't wear you out enough to sleep." © 2014 Michael Gentry |
