Inventory Day

Inventory Day

A Story by Michael Gentry

As I sat at my desk in the Man Cave, my laptop powered up in front of me, I find myself browsing a familiar site, Kell's Weapons. Kell Devora a Dark-Hunter himself, probably made the best weapons on the planet.

With my insomnia in full swing this past week, I decided to check over my weapons inventory while the kids were asleep. It's easier this way, I don't need their tiny hands getting cut on the sharp edges of my collection.

As I'm looking over my throwing knives, I noticed that my supply is dangerously low. Adding those to my list of supplies that I need, I check my swords for chips and other signs of damage. Seeing that all my swords were in good condition I moved over to check my jackets and shoulder harnesses for loose threads and tears.

Once I have my list in order I head back over to my desk and start browsing over Kell's inventory. Right away I start seeing all the different swords I want to purchase, so many different styles, so many different designs. I have to restrain myself from buying everything I see so I limit myself to only five swords.

One of the swords I ordered I had been looking at for some time now, it was an amazing piece of craftsmanship. A full-size sword that with a push of a button became a six-foot jagged metal whip. I would need to practice with it before I went out hunting Daimon's with it, but damn it is nice.

After I picked out the swords I wanted I moved onto replacing my throwing knives. I understand now why Nick would take so long when he did my ordering. This place is like Disneyland to a weapons junkie. It seems the one good thing about my insomnia is it gives me more time to appreciate the sheer majesty of Kell's work. The fine detail he inscribes on the hilts and blades was simply incredible. When it came to crafting weapons from steel there was no one better.

Wanting a little more variety in my throwing weapons I decided to buy some throwing spikes and darts to go with my stilettos. It had been a while since I did any weapons buying so my weapons fund had become very substantial. I ended up getting three dozen stilettos, a dozen throwing darts and two dozen throwing spikes.

After getting all the important items out of the way I start looking around the site just for fun. As I'm browsing I see Kell has made the spear from the Predator movies, thinking back to when a spear was a part of my everyday equipment, I read the description and find out it extends to a length of 8 feet with the push of a button. So in the cart went the spear.

Next I found a nice shiny double handed mace. This was a pure work of art in it's simplistic design. As I continued to stare at the mace a slow smile broke out on my face, I could almost see the look of anguish on a Daimon's face when I collapsed its chest with that thing. Still smiling I put the mace in my cart and continue my shopping spree.

The last item I looked at was a compound crossbow. Kell had a large stock of them so I started checking individual selling points. By the time I stopped adding various crossbows I had six in my cart, as much as I like them I did not need six, so I compromised with myself and picked the three I like the most.

As I proceeded to check out I counted all my items:
5 Swords
3 Dozen Throwing Knives
2 Dozen Throwing Spikes
1 Dozen Throwing Darts
A Double Handed Spiked Mace
A Spear That Extends and Retracts
And 3 Crossbows

Looking at the price tag of all my necessary necessities I'm grateful that I saved and invested my money wisely.

After paying for my weapons I decided to have them shipped overnight, since nothing I ordered this time needed to be manufactured I could get everything tomorrow morning by 10 AM. which was perfect because the kids would be at school, Amanda would be at work, so it will only be Rosa, Alexander and myself. I knew Rosa would not mention anything to Amanda, she worked for me long before Amanda became a permanent fixture and the house. I know they have grown close these past 10 years but she remembers what it used to be like before I became human again.

Closing down my laptop I head downstairs to help Rosa with breakfast and tell her about my package that is going to be delivered tomorrow. I tell her that I have not told Amanda yet and ask her not to say anything before I have a chance to. As Rosa is answering me I start to hear the pounding of tiny feet coming down the stairs.

After breakfast is over I help Rose clear the table as Marissa and NJ put on their shoes, jackets, and backpacks. Once the kids are ready I kiss Amanda goodbye and tell her I'll see her after she gets home from work. Packing the kids in the Man-Van and getting them belted in I jumped in the driver seat and announce that the good ship S.S. Hunter would be leaving Port and embarking on our 15 minute journey to the mysterious land called elementary school.

Pulling up to the curb in front of the school I tell my little cherubs that if they do well today and finish all their homework right after school I would take them out for banana splits after dinner tonight. With a squeal of delight the kids jumped out of the Man-Van and disappear through the front doors of the school.

Glancing back towards the school one last time before I turn back around, pulled into traffic and started my day.
