Heartbeat

Heartbeat

A Poem by Michael Fernandez

It’s like a heartbeat,
The cold air entering your lungs "
Weakened by smoke and crystals,
Encased in a chemical seal,
Blood mixed with spit "
Makes you wonder,
Doesn’t it?

It’s like a heartbeat,
The cold ground upon your bare feet "
Weakened by steel and fire,
Encased in torn leather,
Blood mixed with dirt "
Makes you regret,
Doesn’t it?

It’s like a heartbeat,
The cold metal lingers in your hands "
Weakened by scars and burns,
Encased in a broken restraint,
Blood mixed with steel "
Makes you remember,
Doesn’t it?

It’s like a heartbeat,
I swear,
It’s like a heartbeat "
Sometimes it’s there,
Most times,
It’s not…
