Dead Forevermore

Dead Forevermore

A Poem by Michael Fernandez

The life of this world,

Scarred and forgotten,

Was seemingly rebuilt on the mass of a man,

Dead forevermore,

Dead forevermore,

A single man,

Whose body was crushed, ripped, and torn.

Ah!

Dead forevermore,

Dead forevermore!

The seed of a man,

Soon to be the seed of a plant,

The blood within his veins,

Opening anew,

Opening anew,

The roots expand into the broken earth,

To anchor ahold.

Ah!

Dead forevermore,

Dead forevermore!

The leaves of green and yesterday,

Arose from his palm,

The bulliform caused him to clench his fist,

Tightly,

So tightly,

And yet, there was no drought,

The black soil was wet; muddy with the piss and blood of former wars.

Ah!

Dead forevermore,

Dead forevermore!

He could no longer stand on his own,

The tendrils encircled his limbs,

The touch was positive,

Growing more and more,

Growing more and more,

As the life coiled tighter and tighter,

He slowly rose.

Ah!

Dead forevermore,

Dead forevermore!

A victim of senescence,

Merging with the phoenixes of abscission,

Both thrown into the winter storm,

To rot and pass away,

To rot and pass away,

But it was the luck of man,

And the survival of nature.

Ah!

Dead forevermore,

Dead forevermore!

Within the cells of green,

And the cells of red,

The two grew together,

Into one,

Ah, into one,

The hands of time,

Rebuilt once more.

Ah!

Alive forevermore,

Alive forevermore!

Ah!

Alive forevermore,

Alive forevermore!
