Slipping

Slipping

A Poem by MichaelG.

Watch, as sand sinks through the hourglass
Time passes and intent still holds true
Ambitions shouldn't only have a place in the past

Flip over the hourglass, the sand has slipped far too fast
A minute's gone by, and there's still plenty to do
Watch, as sand sinks through the hourglass

Days, weeks, a year, I'm allowing life to bypass
Be mindful, the sand shift quickly, I'm warning you
Grain and grain, sand is still sand, remember to hold steadfast

The flame is flickering, I feel I'm being attacked by teargas
Another winter is coming, I know what is about to ensue
Watch, as sand sinks through the hourglass

Icy winds and cold shoulders, I'd describe my mood as overcast
Drab skies overhead, but I'm seeing them in a new hue
Pay attention, focus is now on the forecast

Excellence is a habit I'm told, so,
Be sure not to get caught waiting,
Watching, with sand still sinking through the hourglass
Ambitions won't only have a place in the past
