A Sadness Deepening Moves Within Me

A Sadness Deepening Moves Within Me

A Poem by Michael W. Farrelly

I am a man too familiar with love
and all that it can do.
I am a man who knows what's above
and what moves deep inside of you;
but a sadness, deepening, moves within me.

I am a man who holds a fire
that can heal as well as burn.
I am a man who has begun to tire,
and I feel my stomach churn;
for a sadness, deepening, moves within me.

I am a man who has crossed 5 of 7 seas
and named things which do not yet exist.
I have studied the mysteries of the Garden's trees
and taught my soul to twist;
yet, a sadness, deepening, moves within me.

I am the man who found you there
one August afternoon.
I am the man who smells your hair
as though drinking gold from a spoon;
but, still, a sadness, deepening, moves within me.
