The ferryman

The ferryman

Can you escape Death?

The ferryman
By: Em

 Along came the ferryman
In quiet hooded steps.
And only laughed and shook his head
As I slowly quietly wept.

And with crooked bending finger
he spoke in raspy voice
“You are dead and no longer linger,
So come and make no noise.”

He reached and stretched to grab at me
as I slowly inched away.
I knew he wouldn’t let me leave,
but I try to keep him at bay.

Then there came screeching noise
And a blackened bird of winged death
landed closely with graceful poise
and knew it would take my ethereal breath.

Then the ferryman looked so stern
and slowly drew away
“I shall go, yet not your turn,
for you have won this fray.”

And so went the ferryman
In quiet hooded steps.
And only laughed and shook his head
as I slowly quietly wept.
