My role in society, or any artist's or poet's role, is to try and express what we all feel. Not to tell people how to feel. Not as a preacher, not as a leader, but as a reflection of us all.

i was 14 when the Beatles came out...i pretended not to like them, called them a fad..just because everyone else was going so crazy over them.
but inside i thought. Wow...
almost 50 years later, i still say wow...i have about everything they ever did on both vinyl and cd..
they are the best Band ever in my eyes and ears.
made strides in music and set trends...
and i was devastated when john was assassinated...
wrote a poem called "December 8, 1980" as tribute.
i was listening to "beatles for sale" cd in the car today on the way to tennis.
"I'm a Loser" john at his finest.
thanks for this poem..you penned it so beautifully...
and for me...Elvis was my Elvis..since i was 6 when he had his first hits and i had all of the early singles and played them over and over....
but then The Beatles were my Beatles.
geez...sorry...i go on and on here...but you got me gushing with your poem

It's wonderful to see how different people from different parts of the world are connected by music (and poetry of course) I can't say I'm an Elvis fan...I don't really know his music apart from the very popular songs. So I suppose I’m not, not a fan.
I love that song!!!!!
"Although I laugh and I act like a clown
Beneath this mask I am wearing a frown
My tears are falling like rain from the sky
Is it for her or myself that I cry"
I mean common on, how amazing are those lines and the mind that wrote them!!!
Thank you for your kind comments and for sharing your thoughts with me! I appreciate it!
This is a fitting tribute to a legend that was taken from us too soon. I like the referance to Elvis. People worship Elvis to this day and I've seen some on TV that have little shrines in their homes dedicated to him. I can understand why some would find John Lennon to be worthy of the same. This is a fine poem written in a unique style.

John Lennon was a profound but broken man. Broken by the disappointment of his upbringing and abandonment. The confusion of his love and anger for his parents and his love and anger for his aunt. Such a troubled but talented spitit. Miayou capture this essence in such a lovely well written poem.
Ps don't seem to get any read requests from you these days?

When stop by and read something of mine and comment...then I know, I crossed your mind and it makes the visit (so to speak) all the more special. So no one gets read requests from me these days...when I cross your mind, come on over :)
Ooh, Mia, those first two lines..."You are cool shades of blue; The one that children paint skies with"...love them. LOVE them. I was ten years old when John Lennon was killed, but I remember it vividly...just this profound...sadness fell over the world; and that is not an overstatement...that is what it was. My mother was a record collector, she had over 100,000 45s in her collection and over 10,000 albums, all from the 50s and 60s; suffice it to say, she had every Beatles recording ever made (AND Elvis) ;-) This poem is a real tribute to the man, the musician, the humanitarian...he was an exquisite human being, and I thank you so much for sharing this, your lovely thoughts, with us...

Thank you Nicholas :) your kindness is much appreciated!
I don't know much about the greatness of John Lennon (I've heard like 10 songs by The Beatles) but you sure paint an awesome picture here and I think maybe I should pay more attention to the "history of rock class" (I hope such a thing exists) and start listening to The Beatles more. You drive the point here wonderfully with your words and what more can I say you are amazing writer, you can convey your message to someone like me who doesn't even know much about him...great write as always Mia!! :)

I was a lad when John Lennon was assasinated but I remember it is if it were last weekend. His song "Working Class Hero" has brilliant lyrics and I play a mutant blues version of it on electric guitar. Another brilliant song along the same theme is "Piss Factory" by Patty Smith. "I got this job working in a piss factory inspecting the pipes. 60 hours 40 dollars a week but it's a pay check jack. So hot in here, like lake sahara but these b*****s are just to goddamn lame to understand they're getting screwed in the a*s. All these women they got no teeth, a gum a cranium. THe way they suck hot sausage well I wasn't sayin to much niether. I figered a speedo on a motorcycle I had to earn my doe, I had to earn my doe." It goes on from there. Brilliant song and lyrics. Just like this poem. Thank you for posting it

Elvis... love. I grew up listening to him more than the Beatles. The Beatles were and are still pretty epic though. My point however, is that I think this is a nice tribute and if it were for Elvis, I may have shed a tear. ;) haha It's you and I love it. :)
