Death is all of these things. Yet do you not think there is another side to the coin? What of those tortures terrible that men visit upon one another, both the physical and of the mind? To be caught and held for so long, to be degraded, pushed to the edge over and over again, only to be denied the ability to slip over that same edge...such a cruelty. And that cruelty exists within this world. It's happening at this very moment to someone you and I will never meet.
I have only to think of Masada and what the Romans would have done to know that sometimes, just sometimes...
Death is a release. Death is mercy.

Death most certainly can be a release and merciful at times. My only thing is that the release and mercy are momentary but death is forever. Not knowing whether things would improve or not would be enough for me to want life more than death. It’s easy to say that when you've never been in such cruel or difficult situation, I suppose.

Death is forever...or is it? Whole religions and philosophies have been devoted to answering that question. Only those that have taken the journey could possibly know that answer.
In western culture we tend to ignore the fact that we will all die some day. People who live their lives like that usually do not really live. Thank you for your perception, I think you have presented it well
For a first attempt this is a great poem. You are one the few that I have seen personify death as a female rather than male. Great approach. One minor thing I saw: In the last line should "face" really be "faced" Aside from that, EXCELLENT POEM!

I've always viewed Death as a very neutral thing. Not good, not evil, not beautiful, not ugly. Simply . . . Death, fair and balanced and unmovable. Unchangeable, and we all come face-to-face with him, sooner or later.
It's really the only constant in this world. (Well, that and taxes)

Haha :) Thank you for taking the time to read and review my writing!
Interesting way in which you refer to death as 'her' - ive always conceived it as without gender, 'it'. There is much promise here - the fourth line I found hard to make sense of.
Good job though.

With regards to the fourth line, I meant that we can all live (happily) with the idea of never dying but we don't really have a choice. Death is inevitable.
I appreciate your honesty!
