Death is all of these things. Yet do you not think there is another side to the coin? What of those tortures terrible that men visit upon one another, both the physical and of the mind? To be caught and held for so long, to be degraded, pushed to the edge over and over again, only to be denied the ability to slip over that same edge...such a cruelty. And that cruelty exists within this world. It's happening at this very moment to someone you and I will never meet.
I have only to think of Masada and what the Romans would have done to know that sometimes, just sometimes...
Death is a release. Death is mercy.

Death most certainly can be a release and merciful at times. My only thing is that the release and mercy are momentary but death is forever. Not knowing whether things would improve or not would be enough for me to want life more than death. It’s easy to say that when you've never been in such cruel or difficult situation, I suppose.

Death is forever...or is it? Whole religions and philosophies have been devoted to answering that question. Only those that have taken the journey could possibly know that answer.
Quite a strong message for people who see death as the easy, all-encompassing way out of their struggles (though maybe it is in certain situations, when there is nothing else left) and to think this is your first attempt at poetry...you describe a world of thoughts in this short write...Well done!!
This was short but expressed so much. I'm glad this was speaking out against suicide.
There are too many people on here writing about suicide as a viable option when it should never even be considered any type of option. Death is ugly.
I liked the description of death holding you close until there is no more light. Beautiful. Well written.

Knowing how it feels to be left behind, I couldn’t possibly do that to the people I love on purpose.
Thank you lovely lady :)

Death, the thief... You bring to us that sad truth that she waits... and every day she could take us through the doorway... May we all live fully, and not waste away our precious days.
Such a true to life poem, death is a natural consequence of our existence that we naturally resent yet must accept, so true. For a first attempt this is superb!
