Tin drum fable

Tin drum fable

A Poem by Mi Wae
"

a little poem about how the beat of the heart and its desires goes on after everything is ruined.

"

After the event no sound around
but breeze blowing dust
across scorched earth
over the useless detached junk
that survived.

After the event no sound around
except the tin drum
rattle swing thump, thump
heralding the things to come
in my heart.

there is the beginning of meaning there.. I hope I've managed to have pretty writing as well as meaning there. I am thinking of adding a few stanzas...

I'm reading LIFE AND FATE right now and your poem strongly evokes images of a broken city after a great, gigantic battle has rolled back and forth over it claiming thousands of lives and destroying everything. The Tin Drum also evokes German the novel of that name. And then there are our individual hearts beating away, as you describe. Moving stuff. For some reason the words 'After the event' really get me.
