"

She lifted her head and gazed across the charred horizon, her eyes still watering from the searing heat. 


Blackened trees litter her view, they stretch as far as she can see, withering into the smouldering earth. The breath she had just taken is suddenly caught in her throat. 


The wind is only a breeze now but it lifts her smoky hair and whips it across her face. 


She knows she must move, to turn and walk away, to find a new home, to begin again. But in that moment she cannot, she cannot tare her eyes from what was once her sanctuary, once her home.

It must be the hardest thing to have to go through. I've seen people on the news that lost their homes by fire in California. I don't know how they get through it.
