Collage Poem

A Poem by Madi

Once I had a dream when I was watching the sunset on the beach and I had a feeling of contentment and peace over me.  There were no bugs in the air tickling my skin, my body was sinking lower and lower into the rope hammock that was pushing out all of my knots in my back and all the stress in my body.

As the molecules expand in the warm air

The sap cells flow upward without a care

I was not too hot and I was not too cold, I could feel the sun on my skin like a warm embrace surrounding me.

The chicks are already vulnerable to predation and starvation. Now, the study at Punta Tombo, Argentina, found that intense storms and warmer temperatures are increasingly taking a toll

From the tighter root cells of the cold thawing ground

To the warmer branches is where they’re bound

I was aware of where I was at, but I had not  one worry or care, nor pain.  I lay there for who knows how long, I never got hungry, I never yearned for anything i was satisfied with the blissful nothingness around me.

Life has never been easy for just-hatched Magellanic penguins

Then falls the air temp and the tree constricts

I see vivid orange and yellow painted across the sky as if someone had in fact actually painted that glorious sunset.  When I looked at it I felt warmth radiating through my body.

“We knew when each chick hatched, and its fate,” Dr. Boersma said.

Constricts to lift the branches to cause the rain to glide

Down the trunk to the roots where the sap is made

I did not pay attention to the sand or the water,  all I knew is that I was sitting on that wonderful rope hammock watching that beautiful sunset.

Because the warmer underside of the branch bows up with pride

And for all this the deciduous tree provides us shade

During the summer’s hot tide

I stayed like that forever, and the sunset stayed like that forever, wrapping me in its warm rays
