Short Lived

Short Lived

Hacked at the roots, chainsaw to the core

Cold breeze made me leave, no branches to sore

I fall, I fall, I fall,

Started as a seed grounded and grew larger

By the salty water watching seals in the harbor

I grew, I grew, I grew

Weathered many years, I gave oxygen to the air

Had plenty of space for many critters to live and share

So tall, So tall, So tall,

My foundation was purchased, I was just in the way

Wildlife loved me, the new folks didn’t want me to stay

I knew, I knew, I knew,

Quiet mornings became loud by that peninsula,

Summer days I gave shade from the high temperature

I saw, I saw, I saw,

The tools to my demise pulled up in a truck to remove me

Out flew the birds and wildlife that had soothed me

So blue, so blue, so blue,

The sky was blue that day as limb by limb I was cut

As I was taken from the very place that I was stuck

I fall, I fall, I fall.

How ironic. humans destroy trees. And then nature and wildlife renew it again. And yet they still come and take humans? The root of all evil.
