Crisis Of The Heart

Crisis Of The Heart

A Poem by D Ruppert

Alone I sit,
To the sound of falling rain
Sipping whiskey,
Tears streaming down my face
My heart remains torn,
Between two loving souls
Fearing any moment,
They'll be gone without a trace
My heart pounding,
Like waves of thunder
Next to either of you,
I feel like I'm in heaven
Body and soul,
Cradled by passion and desire
All alone,
I feel like I'm suffocating
Drowning in a pool,
Filled with tears and sorrow
Light begins to fade,
Flooding my world with darkness
With nowhere to run,
And nowhere to hide
Finding myself, face to face,
With a crisis of the heart

Slowly losing my mind,
Coming apart at the seams
Burning questions loom,
In my search for love, stability
Is chaos, confusion, pain,
All that my heart will ever find?
Will I remain shackled,
To a love that will never come to be?
Victim of my persistence,
Real glutten for punishment
Never knowing when to give in,
To quietly exit the game
The soldier in me says press on,
To fight till my dying day
Embrace whatever hand I am dealt,
Death before dishonor
Drowning in a pool,
Filled with tears and sorrow
Light begins to fade,
Flooding my world with darkness
With nowhere to run,
And nowhere to hide
Finding myself, face to face,
With a crisis of the heart

Despite the heartache or shame,
That I might be forced to endure
Dark lonely road of solitude,
I may have to travel alone
Having had my trust in love shattered,
Deceitfully ripped from my grasp
Like the Phoenix I rose from the flames,
Fists clenched, fighting to the end
