The Stand

The Stand

A Poem by D Ruppert

Our thoughts are like a thief,
Creeping silently through the night
Playing on our emotions,
Embedded deep within our minds

Here we stand in the shadows,
Witnessing the calm before the storm
Unheralded waves of violence,
Smothered by walls of smoke and fire

It's within our proclivities,
With clenched fists, holding on to our dreams
Impossible or not we must fight,
Hunt down, eliminate, what has us living in fear

It has to come to end,
Can't allow their words to drag us down
Time to face the music,
No matter how much it may hurt
Like warriors we must rise,
Take a stand, never back down

After years of being judged,
Scowled at for displaying individuality
Harsh words deployed relentlessly,
All self confidence was gone
Left feeling hollow inside,
Inadequate, less than zero

Having been pushed around,
Bullied beyond words, an endless nightmare
Drowning in a sea of regret,
Laced with the burning desire to just end it all

It's within our proclivities,
With clenched fists, holding on to our dreams
Impossible or not,
Hunt down, eliminate, what has us living in despair

It has to come to end,
Can't allow their words to drag us down
Time to face the music,
No matter how much is may hurt
Like warriors we must rise,
Take a stand, never back down

No matter how rough the waters,
Or how tough the fight may become
We can never give up,
We must never throw in the towel
At the end of they day,
They must not be the ones who prevail
