Chapter ThreeA Chapter by Neeeks!
The week had gone by quickly; a lot faster than I had anticipated. Normally, that would be a good thing; school and work had been easy, and even my mom and sister had been in better moods. Not to mention the fact that my brother had yet given me an attitude all week. Life was going along nicely. That is, until I would remember that the concert was drawing closer; not even a week away. I was going to Amanda's, the tickets had come in the mail just two days before, and I still hadn't gotten in contact with Amanda. When my mom told me to call Amanda and let her know that I was on my way to her house, I had called the house phone knowing her mom would answer it. Now I was on my way, driving my sisters car to Amanda's house. Amanda had continued to call, tweet, and leave messages on my wall on Facebook. She had emailed me, left numerous voice mails, and left comments on any site online that we both had. By now, I was sure she was taking my lack of effort to get in contact with her as a sign that I hadn't managed to get her Jonas tickets.
I felt bad, ignoring her the way I was. We were best friends, had been for almost seven years, but I couldn't bring myself to talk to her. I was sure she would get mad at me for buying the tickets, and she wasn't one I liked to anger. The drive went by quicker than I had wanted it too, mainly because I was lost in my own little world during the hour drive. How I had managed to get to Amanda's house in one piece without running into anything was beyond me, but I had managed it. The entire time I had run the scenario of me finally telling Amanda what happened through my head. I had thought of every possible outcome, silently hoping that it would be one of the better ones. I pulled into her driveway, my mind going blank when I saw her sitting on her front steps, waiting for me. She looked slightly annoyed, almost sad, but she smiled regardless when she saw me pull up, hopping to her feet and running across her yard to greet me. "Hey," she said as I turned the car off. "Why haven't you been messaging me back? Or answering your phone?" "I got called into work; I thought the extra hours and cash would help with how much I've been spending," I answered, not telling a complete lie. "And I got one message but I was too tired to reply. By time I remembered about it, it wasn't in my phone anymore and my internet has been all screwy lately. I'm sorry." "Mom said that you called the house to let her know you were on your way..." "I tried calling your cell but you didn't answer," I lied. "I figured you didn't hear it." "Oh," she muttered. "I don't have any missed calls..." "I called it..." I replied with a shrug. Amanda simply nodded. I don't know if she actually believed me or if she was trying to convince herself that I wouldn't lie to her about something like not getting back to her. She smiled and helped me grab my things from the backseat. I hadn't brought much, but it was enough to take two bags. We each brought a bag in while Amanda's mom held both Dharma and their older dog, Thor, back. Dharma barked at me, not seeming to recognize me right away while Thor kept bumping into me as he tried to say 'hello' to me. "I'll put my stuff in your room," I said while taking my bag from Amanda. She nodded and followed me up to her room. I set everything down in the corner of her room where it wouldn't be in the way and took a seat on the floor next to her bed. Amanda sat on the bed behind me. I knew she was staring at me, waiting for me to burst from excitement, to wave the tickets in her face. I didn't, though; I just sat there, watching her mice run around in their cages on the other side of the room. I had lost count of how many mice she had, but she loved them all equally. I wasn't even sure how she remembered all their names, but she managed to somehow. "So..." Amanda started. "Did you get the tickets?" "Well, kind of..." I answered, letting out a sigh. "What do you mean by that?" "I kind of ran into a dilemma," I answered, not looking at her. "Both concerts are in the same sate, just different towns." "Yeah, we already knew that," Amanda replied, sliding off the bed to sit on the floor next to me. "Yeah, but they're also on the same night," I muttered. "I could only get tickets to one of the shows..." Amanda stared at me, her face sinking. I didn't say anything as I waited for Amanda to say something, anything at this point; I didn't like it when she was silent. "So...you got tickets to one of them though, right?" she asked. I nodded, still not looking at her. "Which one?" I didn't answer; I just stared at the floor. "I see..." she whispered. "You got the tickets for Tokio Hotel, didn't you?" I couldn't tell what she was thinking, but I was sure she was upset; her eyes were getting watery and she stared at her knees as she pulled them up to her chest. I still didn't say anything as I shifted slightly, digging the tickets out of my pocket to hand them to her. She took them, holding them in front of her as she stared at them. I finally looked up at her, studying her face for any reaction to what I had done. "Why," she demanded as the tears came pouring out, streaming down her cheeks. "Why?" She looked up at me, her face already turning red as she cried. I simply shrugged. "A promise is a promise." © 2010 Neeeks! |
