Good Morning

Good Morning

A Poem by Mest
"

The usual morning routine ...

"
As the morning sun illuminates my face,
And the birds sing joyous songs of the new day,
I turn over and slowly open my eyes,
Staring at the empty spot where you used to lay.

Renewed is the pain that sleep had pushed aside,
Renewed is the longing of a broken heart,
Renewed are the sad memories of the day,
When you packed up and left me, for a brand new start.

As the warm water cascades down my body,
And washes away the dried up tears of a lonely night,
I close my eyes and dream of cleansing my soul,
Of selfish misery now basking in the limelight.

My reflection serves as a portrait of despair,
A painful reminder of the happiness that was once there.
Each piece of clothing a sadder memory than the last,
They are weighed down by more regret than I can bare.

Before I open the door I straighten my back,
Raise my chin and paint a smile on my face.
In one hand I clutch my crying soul,
And shove it in my heart's padlocked case.
I turn the knob and look out in the distance,
To a blissful, sublime, nonexistent place.
