Brain Freeze and Other Analogies

Brain Freeze and Other Analogies

A Poem by Em

contrary to popular belief
numbness isn’t the lack of feeling
it’s more like the feeling of eating really
really really really cold ice cream
there are so many sensations that it hurts
the only thing your brain can do is
just Not feel
it’s like being deep underwater
and your ears refusing to pop
not getting any relief
it’s not the lack of emotions,
it’s a hubbub of so many that
you feel like you are stuck in
grand central station and everything
becomes so loud that you can’t hear anything
it’s the feeling of having so much to do
that you sit down and cry instead
because there is no possible way you can
ever do it all
it’s the feeling of feeling so much that you can’t feel anything at all
and so you become numb

Very relatable and well-written. It's fitting that I found this today because this is how I've been feeling today. Good job! :)

This is so cleverly written. You make me look at this emotion with a new perspective. Your words go deep.

I love your comparisons and/or demonstrations. It reminded me of a quote I heard somewhere.
"The opposite of love isn't hate; it's apathy."
You have a gift. Thanks

Interesting analysis of a condition I'm sure we all have experienced. Well said.
