Death (REvised)

Death (REvised)

A Poem by Maria
"

My mother recently passed away after a 5 year battle with Neuroendocrine Pancreatic Cancer Stage IV. I was able to be with her during most of her battle, and the hardest part was last year.

"

You were taken away, without a moments notice,
Death called you by name,
And off you went into the heavens
To return no more.

It took some time, before Death came for you,
And you were ready, by the door.
Away you went, into his arms
onward to a heavenly realm.

I will not forget how you looked for me,
in the midst of your last breath,
as Death awaited for our
final goodbyes, you stretched out,
grasping my arm.

I pulled you close to my chest, and with one
last look, into my eyes,
You took your final breath.
I cannot lie and say it did not hurt,
for even if we knew, that your time
was near, the pain, will always be there.

My heart broke into a million of pieces,
my soul cried out, and in the end, I gave way
and told you to go, for you had
won your reward.

Death is not to be played, yet in this case,
we knew, you had grown tired of fighting.
So we left your window opened,
for Death to come and take you home.

Even if you are no longer here, your presence
remains forever more
within our hearts and souls.

You fought hard and long and
made sure to spend time with us.
I hate that you had to go, and suffer
before doing so, yet now at least
you rest, at Heavens Gates, with
God alone.

I miss you dearly, my heart aches for your
smell, touch, and voice.
Its been five months since you left this earth
to go with Death to heavens gates.

I will always Love you, no matter what,
and hope to live,
as you did so and bring some peace and joy
to all that miss you so, for you were dear.

And now I await, for my turn
when Death comes calling
me to go on home.

Yet for now, I will live some more,
and hope to see you at
heavens gates, when my own time
comes to leave this earth.

Rest in peace, and know that we
are assured that you no longer
suffer or are in pain.
And that alone, brings about
some peace, within the midst of
our own pain.

I'm so sorry that your mother's passing was fraught with pain and the seeming unfairness of the disease. My own mother is facing a similar death and her dignity and acceptance has made this time easier for me. This was both sad and wonderful. Good job.

First off I'm sorry for your loss. This gave me goose bumps. The level of emotion you convey is something I can relate to. I remember spending nights in ICU for my grandfather who was having kidney failure. He was on dialysis for years. I hope in writing you can find some healing. A touching piece that is nicely done.
