Lullaby

Lullaby

A Poem by Meredith Ann

every time she calls i hear the strain in those vocal chords
from all the painful screaming, agonizing crying, someone's lying
save my life
before i run out of time

i can't understand a word that comes from those torn shaking lips
and chattering teeth that show she's weak
with fear in the form
of her support

all she has, has fallen
with all she's got she's callin'
screaming for an answer
but who would want to chance her?

deformities of her mind
leave her broken and only capable of rhyme
and all those songs she sings are never about anything
but as long as they put her to sleep
then the talk in her head is not so cheap
