Last VacancyA Poem by Mockingbirddrawn to the sizzle of a neon vacancy blinking rouge et noir like roulette on the retinas the moth bets red his fate is sealed. the wary traveler turns back to black where cicadas buzz bye. walking through styx the ivied bower looms beneath the dusty quill. paper breezes deceive the noble pursuit. beyond the vines the walls are lined with ivory monuments hollow and decaying. echoes of a celestial aria beckon the errant to the rock. within stained panes repentant flames adorn the tell-tale crown the flock sing praises the judge abases submit to dogma or kindly be damned. the canon on high breaks the trance on time one of the fold escapes the hallowed blade. the humming brights light the road like a strobe burning the grime from the flesh. all bets are off he follows the moth the last entry in a time-worn registry the key is granted to the last vacancy. © 2014 Mockingbird
