Soldier

Soldier

A Poem by Mercer
"

This is about war, and the effects it has on not only the veterans, but their families.

"

This life filled with gritty sand

A beautiful bloodied wasteland

People think our lives are Grand

But we all wear our brand

We all fight our battles

The Machine guns Unceasing Rattle

We hear the whistle and scatter

We all dream of cheerful laughter

We fight and die

For a country that never ceases to lie

No one ever seems to pry

And blame them for making our families cry

Today my battle ends

And so my son’s begins

My wife widowed, and child orphaned

In war, no soldier wins

I know the son isn't technically orphaned.

Good work. It's well thought out, and I really like the topics that you pick to write about. My grandpa is a veteran and he tells me his stories about the army all the time. I'd be lost without him in my life, thank goodness he came home safely. I have so much respect for soldiers as well as their families for supporting them. It takes a lot of strength. Unfortunately, it does seem that our country is full of lies, I just hope that our soldiers aren't fighting in vain.
