Fake Gold

Fake Gold

A Poem by Mercedes Diamond

With a single beam of light from the wardrobe up ahead

I could not be phased with things beyond that little bed

We didn't know eachother and we didn't care to

Under a toxin of aluminum that was gently painted blue

We talked about the future but we didn't really care

We didn't want details of the night we both stayed there

I stared at that beam and did what i was told

And all i can remember was the taste of his fake gold

His gold was like his lies; full of bitter. Full of sweet.

As we look out at the lights and smoke a cigarette on the street

There were moments of uncertainty and questions without response

We hid ourselves away staying sheltered from beyond

The depth of his skin and the rush of mine

Was nothing short of beautiful; a mix that's made to shine

I never planned to stay when i woke up in the sun

I slipped out from the bed and i gently paced my run

I soon regain my thoughts, trying to forget that night

The night that Gold taste bitter and that gentle beam of light

We didn't know eachother and we didn't care to

under a toxin of aluminum that was gently painted blue.
