What Do You See?

What Do You See?

A Poem by Mercedes Childers

What do you see when you look in the mirror?

Do you see you?

Do you see the person you want to be?

When you see yourself, do you think “this is all that I want to be”?

Do you see your soul through your eyes?

Do you feel the need to smile at your sight?

Or do you see a shadow of the person you once were?

Do you find that you are only a dark figure of who you used to be?

Do you see a girl or a boy who yearned so much to be popular, or beautiful, or even just a little bit liked?

Do you try to find your eyes to stare into, but all you discover are two colored circles with no life whatsoever?

Are you okay with what you see?

Are you satisfied with you, or your shadow that represents you?

Are you content with the fact that a demon took over to make your soul a shadow?

Did you know that we are only the bodies to our souls, and when we are shadows, it’s because we won’t let our true spirits shine?

What if I told you that there are more than one demon to turn your soul into the shadow? What if I told you that those demons are actually created by your need to be with the in-crowd?

That you made those demons yourself?

What I see is a shadow.

But when I look into my eyes, I find a tiny speck of life that remains.

No, I am not happy with this, but until we find that we can make ourselves whole again, chase those demons away, and rid ourselves of these shadows that we have become,

Our souls will stay in the dark, and we’ll never be who we truly are.

So what’s it gonna be? Your soul? Or Your shadow

Very good questions asked in the poetry.
"But when I look into my eyes, I find a tiny speck of life that remains.
No, I am not happy with this, but until we find that we can make ourselves whole again, chase those demons away, and rid ourselves of these shadows that we have become,
Our souls will stay in the dark, and we’ll never be who we truly are.
So what’s it gonna be? Your soul? Or Your shadow "
The lines are serious questions. Dark or light? What will we be. Thank you Mercedes for sharing the excellent poetry.

Fight for your soul! You are an artist and the troubles that plague you will make you stronger. Demons can't win. It's just a fact
