Love Honest

Love Honest

A Poem by Merancapeman

How can I love someone as such

Who is like me, yet not so much

That you can understand my dreams

Or the ills that stress apart my seams

I peer into your eyes and see

Reflections, images of me

Deeper still into your core

A corpse of what was once in store

In midway shines no emerald green

As would be pretty and pristine

No azure, sky, or ocean blue

Just brown, dark brown, a boorish hue

Just like my eyes, but mine still scope

Out dreams and wishes, hopes of hope

I've had chances, still, to leave

Giving you this false belief

That there is love still in my heart

Though our words still drift apart

Like whispers in a blizzard grim

Or corrupted palish seraphim

Promises like pie-crust, dear,

Undue apologies I hear

Too often in a day to count

All these words simply amount

To nothing in the soul's demesne

Where silence throned proceeds to reign

I do not love you, still I grope

To keep your poor, poor heart afloat

Not out of pity, nor desire

Perhaps in hopes to light a fire

From a worn out broken match

As if in storm a spark will catch

I see the light in other's eyes

Where a soul's true beauty lies

But callous was a name for you

And, different now, it feels untrue

This person you are, who you were not

Cannot be a rose, from whence was rot

Though love me you may

And love me you still

You are a haunted vessel, driven only by will.
