Knotty

Knotty

A Poem by Meraki

I have a problem

Not really a problem per say

But a dilemma,

You bother me

Not in a bad way,

Not in a good way either

But more of a distraction

You see

Whenever you're near

This avian goes wild

It flutters around

Rattling it's cage

Banging against the bars

As if to escape

But that's not the worst part

That horrifically vulnerable state occurs

When I catch your eye

When we look at each other

For what may only be,

Seconds

Everything stills

This foolish fowl in the aviary

The air around it

All cognitive function for that matter

Time itself may as well not exist

Because it pauses to watch

And you

Oh you

You're oblivious

Or at least that's what I'd like to believe

And I'm afraid

Because this bird is vulnerable

In your presence

Actually,

It's at the mention of your name

I'm terrified

Afraid that the words you speak

Will turn to spikes

And spear this poor beast

While it flaps

In it's desperate plea for your attention

Affection

But you

You'll never know that

So you see

I have a problem

Or a situation rather

You really bother me.
