Misery

Misery

A Poem by Meraki

You smile,
Despite all of the hardships
You constantly face in your life
You seemingly shrug it off
The stress, depression... The weight

It hurts doesn't it?
Your heart
Your soul
You've hemorrhaged many emotions
During your life
Internalizing the anguish
It's not surprising you can't absorb
The happiness you charge the air with

Or the infection of melancholia
That has infiltrated your mind

It is nothing you did
But you can't see that
And so bitter grows your soul
As the seconds go by
Laughing laughs that never warm your heart
You become more and more ensnared
By the trap you've set for yourself
A hard cased shell of disconsolation
How sad that truly is.

However
You'll receive no pity from me, Misery.

Accurate and exacting. You have the insight of an X-ray machine, dear poet.
