InimitableA Poem by MerakiI went outside the other day For the first time in weeks The clear blue sky Became cloudy Or maybe they were there the entire time They looked heavy I watched the bugs hunker down Under leaves and between the cracks in concrete And the birds disappeared The air was so thick I looked up And watched a drop fall It landed on the tip of my nose It was freezing More followed that brave raindrop Soon I was soaked through I couldn't see a thing Then it started to calm down Few drops fell and fewer still Soon they stopped all together But the sun didn't come back It was the stars that peaked through the clouds And so I watched them Taking in their slow journey across the sky I suppose I fell asleep I'm not sure when it happened But I remembered my dream I made my slow journey across the sky And I was only interrupted by the dawn To come back to the same place and start again I watched the sky fade into the pink-orange hues of sunrise And then into the light blue of the morning sky The sun beat down on me Darkening my skin I felt the wind stir As if to announce it's presence The birds were out playing and foraging Whistling their greetings to one another A spider came to greet me It draped its web across my face I watched it pass And then the sky became many colors before fading to the indigo of night The clouds covered the stars for days Dropping their heavy loads from time to time Then disappearing at sunrise So I could not witness the white river's journey throughout the night Slowly I rose to my feet looking up to the sky Before making my way back inside I remembered why I hated the indoors I took a warm shower Then wrapped in my towel I sat down Staring up at the ceiling I remembered why I hated outside © 2014 MerakiReviews
