How the curtains will fall

How the curtains will fall

A Poem by Meraki

The foundations of our
Civilization will crumble
Falling to sounds of screams
And people crying
The skies will crash
Flashing with lightning
Causing air particles
To vibrate and rumble
Ah, how the thunder roars
Church bells will fall
While the preachers are crying
'Dear Lord do not forsake us all'

The little girl cries as she
Clings to her parents
Her brother now missing
'Why isn't he here?'
She cries in her head
Squeezing her teddy's stump
As she tries to hold on to
The last thing he said
But she can't remember

As her father rises
She holds to him quickly
Eyes begging him not to go
'Don't worry honey,
I'll be back soon. I'm going
To look out the door'
He kneels to look in her eyes
Squeezing her tiny had tight
And a reassuring look to his wife

Screams of horror fill the night
Footsteps pounding pavement
As the people still out
Run for their lives
One man falls back
His cries for help go unanswered
He falls to the ground and watches
Their backs as his persuers
Come quickly behind him
His eyes catch movement in
One of the windows above him
He spies a little boy watching
He held that childs eyes
While he cried and cried
Pleading for the boy to look away
And he was captured he didn't
Even fight to weak to care
Or maybe he gave up
But then that boy did walk away

'Dear God I beg of you
To keep my child safe,
I know I don't deserve it but
I ask for forgiveness for all of my mistakes,
I don't care if I die but please,
Please keep my son alive'
A woman prays
Her son watches from another room
Angry and disgusted
Because she said she didn't believe
She was an atheist before
But now she prays
Because everything's gone to hell
Funny how people change in times of need
Though he wasn't laughing

From the rooftop she watches
The quiet streets before
Now turn into a bathtub
For blood and gore
'How the people change'
She says
Sadness in her eyes
'It's too late now, they stopped being human long ago,
When their wants succeeded needs
They got greedy, though it's not their fault
But they did nothing to avoid this'
Her partner says from behind her
'That's not fair,
No one asked for this you know,
There was just no other world they knew'
She defended
'You speak as if we aren't one of them also.
As if none of us ever had a choice or
The ability to change
We have as much to suffer for as they do'
Her lover countered
As she reorganized their bags to leave

Out in the countryside they watched
As the city was set ablaze
A modern day Sodom and Gomorrah
Speechless and shocked
They didn't notice they were being approached from behind
Screams rose out as they were slaughtered like swine

'Hold on mom just a little while longer'
He said hoping that he was right
His mother, she'd been injured
Trying to save her dogs life
But she won but the lion
Got the last laugh in this round
They were up in the mountains
Far from anyone
They silently prayed they'd find help in time
When they drove over the ridge
They couldn't believe their eyes
The small town engulfed in flames
So far gone no could survive
They watched in silent horror
As the orange tendrils filled the sky
And somewhere out in the distance
A wolf's howl sounded
His mother was asleep in the back seat
As he drove to the state border
He watched the stars shimmer
And quietly the son said to himself
'How the curtains will fall'
For the world had ended without a sound

Listening as the prayers flooded in
Watching the many scenarios
It saddened Him so
Such misery and agony and fear
He grieved for them all.
His love knew no bounds.

Meraki
Uh.. I like the beginning.. it really kind of spiraled out of control and kept going after the first stanza however I'm satisfied with it.
