No I will not write about love

No I will not write about love

A Poem by Meraki

I hate writing love poems
I'm not sure I know how to
So I hate to try

Writing feelings such as those
I cannot make sense of
Therefore how can I write them down?

A confused love poem is what you'll receive
forced and full of nothing shy of sweet
And disgustingly so it will be
I can't write a love poem
Please don't ask me to
If you want to know how much I care
View my actions that lead us here
You want confirmation on feelings words cannot fathom
On feelings you cannot understand

That's the point of love don't you get it?
You're confused the whole time
You aren't sure why you're doing the things you do
Why you're always grinning like a fool
Why everything seems bright and cheerful
Why when they get near your heart
Beats faster and you want to see them smile
All the time and their face
flashes right behind your eyes.

The world turns upside down
Inside out and yet everything is fine
So no don't ask me for a love poem.
Nothing not even rhyme
Can explain something so complex.
It's practically a waste of time.

Whether this is prose poetry or just poetry I do not know. It was another text message to my friend who asked me to write a love poem for his girlfriend. This is what I told him he should tell her.

I enjoyed this. We often get caught up in the extremes of love, the infatuation and/or pain, and try to explain it. Let's just not, lol. Good job.

:) thank you
I really enjoyed this no-nonsense take on love poems. Its kind of trying to be the 'antihero' of love poems. I love that persona. You carry it off well. If you could inject a little more imagery, it could make the passion more visceral, to offset the cynical nature of the poem, and kind of disprove it in an ironic flourish.

You discuss how it is impossible to bottle the feelings that love conjures up, to synthesize and reproduce essentially a drug. The poem functions dually as a self-conscious meditation on writing itself, and as plea of noncommittal or ambivalent love. I can feel your doubt in these lines, and even a pathological fear of feeling love.

I feel you could word it more effectively in some places, but subject wise, this is a strong effort. Enjoyed it
