My addiction

My addiction

A Poem by Meraki

Beauty!
That should be her
Name
For she holds us within her warm embrace
While we toss and turn
With dreams we chase

Shh... Shh... She croons so soothingly
Our eyelids are heavy
Bodies are leaden
Movements are sluggish
And not soon enough the fantasies
Claim us

Just before
With timing so perfect
As if watching, waiting in anticipation
For when we were to do something great..
SCREECH! BEEP! C**K-A-DOODLE-DOO! BOOM! WAKE UP YOU INGRATE!
We are torn away
Ripped from her bosom!

With a start
We rise, our minds hazy
See that time
Has once again sped up
As we slowed down
Following our dreams,
So quickly we silence
The obnoxious enforcer,
Too soon leaving the warmth
Of our altars
Reminiscing on the comfort.

Oh the places she took us
Slowly, reluctantly removing the dregs of her
 Scent from our heads.
Woe is me! Woe is me!
We mourn her so desperately
Ended so quickly
By the hatred of her pestiferous enemy,
But never will I be too far away
 From my one true love
Sleep.

I didn't get much sleep as you can see. Nonetheless it's a rough draft. So tell me what you think.

The flow of this was really quite interesting. Early on I felt my self getting pulled into the flow of words and elegant phrasing. Then in the third section, the pace began to slow; only to suddenly crash. When followed by the short phrasing in the fourth section, it strikes a vibrantly stark contrast. I would consider adding in more punctuation (especially around these parts) for more deliberate effect. A very interesting read.

Very nicely done, Meraki! I saw a dream guide or other stateful companion. A great opening stanza:

"For she holds us within her warm embrace
While we toss and turn
With dreams we chase "

Oh and, "pestiferous" ... what an annoying vocabulary you are building! ;-)

Although I do have to wonder about the last stanza... is it sleep or the dreams themselves that we love? Possibly both. ^_^

100 perfect sleeps

It's Sleep who is our guide to dreaming without her we wouldn't find dreams
